Vendor Policy

This policy is a part of our Terms of Service. By becoming a vendor on our site, you’re agreeing to this policy and our Terms of Service.

Forthecottage.com, forthecottage.ca is a boutique marketplace for select items inspired by cottage living. Here buyers are able to shop for cottage related items that they might not easily find elsewhere all under one roof!

Everything listed for sale on our site must be products you have either designed, made yourself, vintage items, lightly used furniture or upcycled furniture. Currently we are only accepting Canadian vendors. Item posts will be subject to approval prior to being published online by For the Cottage within 5 business days of receiving the request.

Currently our site accepts sales from Canada and the U.S.  We may receive order request from international buyers. If this is the case we will contact you for a shipping quote.

By selling on forthecottage.com, forthecottage.ca you agree that you will:

Provide honest, accurate information on your product page, honor your Shop Policies and accurately represent your items in the product description and photo’s. Respect the intellectual property of others, not engage in fee avoidance.

You may not post abusive, threatening, defamatory, harassing, discriminating, false, misleading material.

Handmade Items

  1. All handmade items are made/designed by you or if you work with a production partner such person must be accurately described on your product page.
  2. You are using your own photographs – not stock photos, artistic renderings, or photos used by other sellers or sites. If you are selling personalized or made-to-order items, you agree to include photograph examples of previous work or agree to provide such a photograph upon request. You also agree to clearly state the additional costs if there are any.

Manufactured Products

  1. All manufactured products are designed by you or if you work with a production partner such person must be accurately described on your product page.
  2. You are using your own photographs – not stock photos, artistic renderings, or photos used by other sellers or sites. If you are selling personalized or made-to-order items, you agree to include photograph examples of previous work or agree to provide such a photograph upon request. You also agree to clearly state the additional costs if there are any.

Vintage Items

  1. Vintage items must be at least 20 years old. It will be your responsibility to verify this if need be.
  2. You are using your own photographs – not stock photos, artistic renderings, or photos used by other sellers or sites.
  3. Any defects or missing parts must clearly be mentioned in the product description. A photograph clearly showing this must also be provided on the product’s page.

Upcycled (refurbished) Furniture / Architectural Salvage

  1. Items must be cleaned as best as possible before shipping to buyers.
  2. You are using your own photographs – not stock photos, artistic renderings, or photos used by other sellers or sites.
  3. Any defects or missing parts must clearly be mentioned in the product description. A photograph clearly showing this must also be provided on the product’s page.
  4. In the case of upcycled (refurbished) furniture a photograph of the original furniture and a photograph after the item has been refurbished must also be provided.

All items must state which country they are made in on the product page.

All products are subject to the approval of For the Cottage. There is no guarantee that all of your products will be allowed to be placed on our site even though you become an approved vendor.

For the Cottage may remove any listings that violates our policies. For the Cottage may also suspend or terminate your account for any violations. You will still be responsible to pay any outstanding fees on your For the Cottage statement.

You may not encourage buyers through the forthecottage.com platform to purchase an item in your For the Cottage product page through another venue and as well you may not complete a transaction off of forthecottage.com if initiated on forthecottage.com.  Violation may result in removal from our site.

We expect our sellers to provide a high level of customer service. By selling on forthecottage.com, you agree to honor your processing times and reply to messages/emails in a timely manner. You must adhere to your shop’s policy, resolve disputes directly with the buyer. If you are unable to complete an order, you must notify the buyer and cancel the order.

Payments

For the Cottage accepts Mastercard, Visa, Debit Card, American Express through Square and PayPal as forms of payment from their customers through forthecottage.com.

Fees

For the Cottage will automatically deduct 15% commission from the NET sales transaction of an order. The 15% will not be taken from the tax or shipping costs. This commission will include any fees associated with the sales transaction including website maintenance and basic advertising costs on social media should your product be chosen to be advertised. For the Cottage currently does not charge any fee for new product uploads. We will notify you if and when we decide to implement such a fee. If we decide to charge this fee we will do so only for new item uploads commencing after the date of such implementation.

Advertising

Occasionally For the Cottage may advertise one of your products at no additional cost to you unless otherwise stated and confirmed by you. Advertising media may include, but will not be limited to Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. In this case we will also use one or more of your item images in order to promote your items. Should you wish us to enhance this advertising please email us at sales@forthecottage.com and we can discuss your options.

Please feel free to advertise our website and your associated shop link on any of these platforms. If you would like to advertise printed material or on sites other than the ones noted above, please send us an email to sales@forthecottage.com with your request.

Payment to Vendors

We will send out payments to vendors within 3 business days of an order payment received by For the Cottage.  Payments to vendors of orders that are less than $100 will be sent by interac e transfer. Orders above $100 will be sent by PayPal. The email for these transactions will be the vendors preferred email address. Should the amount of the total order for the specific vendor be less than $30 an additional fee of $1.50 for the interac e transfer will be subtracted from the vendor payment amount.

Shipping Items

By selling on For the Cottage, you agree to provide an accurate “shipping from” address and provide shipping costs and processing times in your listings.
Items should comply with all local and international delivery and customs regulations (if applicable) and you are responsible for adding the applicable shipping fees to your vendor dashboard. Items should be promptly shipped to the address listed on For the Cottage receipt after they are sold, no later than 10 business days after purchase, unless you specify otherwise in your listing. If you are unable to ship your item on time you must contact the buyer. If the buyer does not agree to the new shipping terms they may cancel and ask for a refund.
After shipping items must be marked shipped on your Vendor Dashboard and the buyer will also receive a notification. By entering this information and any tracking information on For the Cottage, you’re giving us permission to collect and share this data received from your chosen delivery carrier with the buyer.

In the unlikely event an order does not arrive, be prepared to provide valid proof of shipment. If a buyer does not receive their order, they may file a case against you or your shop.

Privacy and Protecting Personal Information

You are responsible for protecting members’ personal information you receive or process, and you must comply with all relevant legal requirements. This includes applicable data protection and privacy laws that govern the ways in which you can use For the Cottage user information. These laws may require that you post and comply with your own privacy policy, which must be accessible to For the Cottage users with whom you interact. Your privacy policy must be compatible with For the Cottage Terms of Service. If no Privacy Policy is posted in your terms buyer will consider the Privacy Policy posted on forthecottage.com.

Cancellations, Returns, and Exchanges

As a vendor you will be responsible for your own Cancellation, Return and Exchange Policy. Please note that each country has its own laws surrounding delivery, cancellations, returns and exchanges in addition to this policy. Please post your policies on your page accordingly. Let us know if the client is approved for a refund. If  within 30 days of purchase and if you have not yet received the funds for the item, For the Cottage will provide their refund.

Cancellations

If you are unable to complete a transaction, you must notify the buyer via email/message and cancel the transaction. If the buyer already submitted payment, you must issue a full refund.

European Union Right of Withdrawal (if applicable)

Buyers in the European Union (EU) may be entitled to a 14-day “right of withdrawal” after receiving an item, during which they may return an item for any reason. The details of this right vary by EU member state. Rights with respect to digital items vary by EU member state.  The right of withdrawal does not apply to custom items or certain perishable goods.
